In Scotland funded early learning and childcare is free to parents, but funded by the Scottish Government.
The Government currently provides 16 hours a week of fully funded childcare for children from the term after they turn 3 until they start school. In September 2020 this is being increased to 30 hours per child a week (1140 hours per year).
At Dreghorn we have been lucky enough to be included in a pilot scheme which has been operating in advance of the national roll out. This means our opening hours are now fully funded, and there are no fees to pay, apart from for snacks. We offer 30 hours a week (6 hours a day, 5 days a week during term).
Each child also receives a hot nutritional and healthy lunch.
Military parents moving to Edinburgh should note that unlike elsewhere in the UK in Scotland parents are able to take advantage of the scheme whether they work or not. You can also choose to split the funded hours between ourselves and a childminder who is also registered to the new scheme to allow for fully funded, fully flexible childcare.
